Special Education

Our Special Education Law Practice

We represent students with disabilities, and the schools that serve them. Our reputation for providing legal advice on all matters concerning the provision of special education services has earned us many loyal clients, and a reputation for being among the elite practitioners in the special education field.

Students with Disabilities

We represent children with disabilities to ensure they receive the free and appropriate public education to which they are entitled.  If their school district recommends a program or placement that is inappropriate and differences cannot be resolved reasonably, we vigorously pursue our clients' rights and interests through due process hearings, and, if necessary, the federal courts, and we are very successful at doing so.

Special Education Schools

Private schools for students with disabilities, whether state approved and funded or not, choose to work with us over other law firms because of our experience dealing with a wide range of special education issues. We help schools in developing and implementing new programs, expanding existing programs, obtaining approval from state authorities, responding to and defending against program and fiscal audits by the Office of the State Comptroller, addressing compliance issues, advising and counseling on labor and employment issues, contracting with municipalities and school districts, developing programmatic, fiscal, and administrative policies, and advising boards of directors and trustees as they transact the business of the school.

Aside from serving as legal counsel to children and schools, we also have taught special education law at law schools, graduate schools, and to lawyers at continuing legal education seminars.  We also keep our clients and their constituents up to date on trends, issues, and legislation that impact the special education community.
